(1861 - 1941)
- Reçu le prix Nobel de littérature en l'année 1913, principalement pour son livre de poèmes intitulé, Gitanjali devenant le premier asiatique à remporter le prix Nobel
- Gitanjali a été publié à l'origine en bengali le 14 août 1910, et plus tard publié en anglais incorporant les propres traductions de Tagore en 1912
- Gitanjali fait partie de la collection d'œuvres représentatives de l'UNESCO
Selon le site NobelPrize.org de l'Académie suédoise, le Prix Nobel a été décerné au Dr Tagore pour la raison suivante: «à cause de son vers profondément sensible, frais et beau, par lequel, avec une habileté consommée, il a fait sa pensée poétique dans ses propres mots anglais, une partie de la littérature de l'Ouest ". - Le Dr Tagore est né au mois de Boishakh / Baisakh le mois de Bengali le 25 en l'an 1268, ce qui correspond au 8 ou 9 mai de l'année 1861 selon le calendrier grégorien;
Selon le calendrier anglais, le Dr Tagore est né le 7 mai. Ce mélange de calendriers bengali et grégorien a donné lieu à des célébrations d'anniversaire de trois jours
- Rabindranath Tagore avait une éducation non traditionnelle, évitant la scolarité en classe, et était largement instruit par son frère dans divers domaines tels que le dessin, l'anatomie, la géographie, l'histoire, la littérature, les mathématiques, le sanskrit et l'anglais; Il a également été physiquement conditionné par son frère à travers la natation, et en apprenant les arts martiaux et la lutte
- Bien que son sujet de prédilection soit l'anglais durant sa jeunesse, il a grandi pour devenir l'un des écrivains les plus en vue durant son séjour en anglais.
- Le Dr Tagore a commencé à écrire en anglais plutôt que de traduire ses travaux en bengali seulement après qu'il ait eu la cinquantaine
- Le Dr Tagore a reçu un doctorat honorifique de l'Université d'Oxford en 1940 pour toutes ses contributions et pour son éducation.
- Il a de nouveau montré que l'âge n'est pas un obstacle en commençant à peindre à l'âge de 60 ans
